Maytag Dryer Belt
I spent the better part of an hour trying to assemble the BELT. Finally, I gave up and searched for this on the Internet. I had the belt on in less than 5 minutes! Thank you!

Anonymous' comment on 11/25/07 really helped. If you've never fixed a dryer before and the belt has snapped, you have no idea where the belt is supposed to go! I thought it went into that groove in the back as well, until I read the comment. Everything is working now. Thanks, mysterious stranger!

maytag belt routing (and positioning)
very helpful - additional information on where the belt rests when installed was also helpful.
I have a worn mark where the belt should go but had thought that it would go in the grove just behind the pullies. Not so.

belt position on drum
Thanks for the belt routing info. One thing I discovered that wasn't immediately obvious is that the belt is not supposed to contact the drum in the groove that looks like it might be for that purpose. If it does it there will not be enough tension on the belt, the idler will be at the wrong angle and the metal belt guide will rub on the belt. I did find that putting the belt in that groove while routing it around the idler/drive gave me more slack, then once that was on I moved the belt to it's correct position by moving it out of the groove on one side and rotating the drum until it was completely out of the groove. I hope this helps others who might have been tripped up like I was.

dryer belt routing
Very helpful. As simple as you would think it should be...it can be most confusing if you haven't done it in awhile. Your website is listed in my favorites now.
Thanks,
Gabe

Routing Dryer Belt
The sketch was great without it I wouldn't of gotten it done. I did use a mirror image working from the front. I also had an easier time using a small block of wood to position the idler and then threaded the belt around the pulley and idler followed by sliding the tumber into position while guiding the belt around the tumber. Then removed the block of wood. It worked and turned out to be easier for me.
Thanks again.
