Faulty Power Resistor / Thermostat

There are two basic settings for a dryer timer; Timed Dry and Automatic.  If the timer WILL ADVANCE in Timed Dry cycle, but WILL NOT ADVANCE in the Automatic cycle selection, then the power resistor or thermostat is faulty.

Manufacturers have two basic designs that control the timer advance when in the Automatic Dry cycle.  The first uses a large power resistor.  This resistor passes power to the timer at the appropriate time and allows it to advance.  If this resistor fails the solution is so simply replace it.

The second design utilizes a special thermostat.  This thermostat passes power to the timer at the appropriate time and allows it to advance.  If this thermostat fails the solution is so simply replace it.

The only way to tell which design you own, is to research the model number and see which exists in the part list.
